In the EU, international protection applicants can enter the labour market after 9 months. Yet, several EMN Members have shortened this period to 6 months or less to facilitate access and promote faster integration.

While reducing and relaxing restrictions to enter the labour market show promise for integration, some doubts persist:

  • Abuse of the asylum system,
  • Risk of facing precarious work conditions,
  • Workplace discrimination.
